✦ Synopsis

Abstraet--Lactams form an important and widely investigated group of heterocyclic monomers. Compared with other homologous series of monomers, lactams possess high values of relative permittivity (E), depending on the ring size. Analysis of ~ data in the range of 300-550 K shows that, in lactams containing a cis-amide group, a great change in E occurs during polymerization due to the transformation of cis-associates to trans-associates; this change may lead to changes in the polymerization kinetics and may be employed in direct monitoring of the polymerization.
