✦ Synopsis
This article proposes a dielectric o¨erlay on the conductors of an edge-coupled suspended coplanar wa¨eguide in order to impro¨e the forward-coupling characteristic. The coupling characteristics ha¨e been studied with the use of a semianalytical technique: the method of lines. The theoretical results show that dielectric loading produces large bandwidth and flat coupling response, which is suitable for broadband applications. Also, the lengths of the lines are reduced because of increased coupling, leading to a more compact structure.
