Dielectric spectroscopy was employed to study the dielectric behavior of typical ISE membrane plasticizers and their compounds with PVC. Distinctly different patterns are reported with PVC compounds of polar and apolar plasticizers.
Plasticized poly( vinyl chloride) (PVC) has become the most frequently used matrix for ion-selective electrode (ISE) membranes. It can accommodate both ionexchanger and neutral carrier electrodes. Many clinical analyzers today are equipped with PVC electrode membranes for the determination of potassium, calcium, chloride, etc. [l]:
