The largest ecological unit is the biosphere.

An ecological subdivision is proposed for its terrestrial part -the geobiosphere, which is also the habitat of man. Of all the different components of an ecosystem (climate, soils, producers, consumers, decomposers), the climate of the lower atmosphere is the most convenient on which to base such a classification. The climate can be represented as a whole by ecological climatic diagrams, which are used today by ecologists all over the world.
