Six cases of "cone-shaped epiphysis" are reported. This is a special disorder of the enehondral ossification; it was observed in cases of dysehondroplasia, enchondral dysostosis also following osteomyelitis and fractures near the epiphysis. On the basis of experimental and clinical observations authors believe, that the deformity develops in consequence of the disturbance of the circulation in the epiphyseal vessels and in the main nutrient artery. Blood supply to the peripheral area of the growth-plate for it's further growth originates from the periehondral and periosteal vessels. Eventual arrest of growth depends on the severity of the disturbance of the ossification, respectively on the severity of the trauma.
Zusammenfassung. Die Autoren besehreiben 6 F~lle yon ,,Zapfenepiphyse". Sie beobaehteten diese eigenartige enchondrale OssifikationsstSrung nach Dysehondroplasie, enchondraler Dysostose, Osteomyelitis und nach Frakturen der Epiphyse. Auf Grund der beschriebenen F~lle und experimentellen Beobaehtungen sehen die Autoren die Ursache des Entstehens dieser Deformit~t in einer Kreislaufst5rung im Gebiete der epiphysgren und nutritiven Hauptarterie. Das Weiterwachsen des peripheren Tells des Wachstumsknorpels wird durch die periosteale und perichonch'a]e Blutversorgung gesichert. Das mit der Deformit~t verknfipfte Zurtickbleiben im Wachstum hgngt yore Grad der enchondralen OssifikationsstSrung bzw. Verletzung ab.
