✦ Synopsis
In the isolated cell-free perfused rat kidney the effect on glucose reabsorption of lowering of the Na+-eoncentration in the perfusion medium, and of the addition of Ouabain (0,5 mg/ml) to the perfusion medium was studied.
-
Lowering of the Na+-concentration below 50 m_Mol/l leads to a gradual decrease of the net-glucose reabsorption. However, even in virtually Na+-free media about 25°/o of the tubular glucose load is still reabsorbed.
-
Addition of Ouabain to the medium results in a 40°/o decrease of the net-Na +transport, and 8. leads to a concomitant decrease of the net-glucose reabsorption of about 30o/0 . The results are interpreted on the assumption that a Na+-K + activated, Ouabain-sensitive ATPase is responsible for the liberation of energy for the active transport of Na + as well as for the active transport of glucose. * Mit Untersttitzung dutch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
