✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The UV, spectra and the polarizationof the individual absorption bands have been measured for tropone, 2,7‐dimethyl‐4, 5‐benzotropone and 2, 7‐dimethyl‐4, 5‐naphtotropone. The positions, relative intensities and polarizations of these bands predicted by a simplified version of the PPP‐method of configuration interaction is in excellent agreement with observation.
