✦ Synopsis

The enthalpies of formation of l.G-methano-[lO] annulene (IV) (AHfzpB(IV,g) = 75.2 0.6 kcal mol-I), 1.6-imino-[lO]annulene (V) (dHf2,,(V,g) = 87.8 + 0.7 kcal niol-1) and of 1.6-0xido-[lO]annulene (VI) (dHf,,,(VI,g) = 47.8 f 1.2 ltcal mol-l) have been determined by combustion calorimetry. The difficulties connected with an attempt to derive meaningful1 <resonance energies o are discussed.
