✦ Synopsis
Light intensity is an important environmental variable with which plants must cope. Adaptation of plants to this environmental factor includes morphological, ultrastructural and biochemical changes. The light dependence curves show that the low-light leaf prevails in photosynthesis at low light intensities while the high-light leaf prevails at high light intensities. Not only the level of soluble enzymes but also the content of many components of the photosynthetic electron transport chain is increased in high-light thylacoids. However, the content of reaction centers is not changed very much. There is a one-to-one ratio between reaction centers (P-700) and rate-limiting components in high-light thylacoids while in low-light several P-700 work together with one rate-limiting step.
