โฆ Synopsis
Didymium Goggles.--( Ceramic Industry, Feb. I932.) Didymium, a chemical element, classed among the rare earth metals, can, in the form of its oxide, be used as a constituent of glass. Its presence in the glass, gives the latter the particular ability of filtering out the yellow light rays at the time permitting the unaltered transmission of other colors. Goggles made of such glass, pinkish in color, have proved a boon to glass blowers. Anyone who has worked glass containing appreciable amounts of soda will appreciate a device which will dispel the yellow glare of flame that almost completely masks the work. Use of such goggles permits the eye to behold the glowing red glass distinctly and allows the worker to follow closely the progress of the operation.
