โœฆ Synopsis


In English language classes, there is often concern about how to motivate students to speak more English. Having students choose their own topics for conversation can initially motivate them. However, they often choose subjects limited solely to personal items. Students complain that they cannot think of topics that are interesting or that challenge th em to use a higher level of E ngl ish. Motivating lower-level students with topics that are ambitious, yet not overwhelming, is particularly difficult. The Did You Hear the News? activity challenges students to discuss a wider variety of conversational topics. Students choose their own topics using media sources. Learning is individual as well as communal through discussions with friends about topics. Because students are able to work at their own level, this activity can be used with all ages and skill levels.
