✦ Synopsis
Diamond-hke carbon (DLC) coated mlcroporous polycarbonate membranes were used as outer covering membranes m glucose enzyme electrodes With optlmlsed DLC deposltlon and the use of 0 01 pm mxroporous polycarbonate, blocompatabdlty has been seen to unprove with only a loss of 6% response after 30 mm exposure to whole blood, and a correlation to wrthm 1 mM concentration unth a standard laboratory method In addltlon, control of the coating process allowed substrate dtislon-hnutmg propertles to the bulk enzyme to be finely tuned permitting extensions m hneanty ranges from 5 to > 80 mM glucose Furthermore the higher bmcompatablhty coupled with the degree of permselectmty exhlblted by DLC has enabled operation \mthm whole blood without a second hydrogen peroxide selectwe bamer membrane Permeablhty coefficients of glucose and 0, determmed for corresponding membranes by a classical dfislon chamber techmque suggest that both the glucose/O, permeablhty coefficient ratios and the absolute glucose permeablhty influenced the hneanty range
