The title compound, [Cu(C 8 H 8 NO 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] n , is a novel material consisting of a Cu II atom bonded to two O and two N atoms from four distinct 3-pyridylpropionate anions. The Cu II atom lies on an inversion center. The connectivity gives rise to two-dimensional sheets in the (101) plane.
In the title compound, [Cu(Cl~2~CHCO~2~)~2~(C~6~H~6~N~2~O)~2~(H~2~O)], both the Cu^II^ atom and the O atom of the coordinated water molecule lie on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis. The Cu^II^ atom is coordinated by O atoms from two monodentate chloroacetate anions, pyridine N atoms from two
