✦ Synopsis

A problem that exists in the training of residents and technologists in abdominal and pelvic scanning is the lack of a concise text covering the basic details of scanning. The book, Abdominal Echography, by E. Barnett and P. Morley, makes a significant contribution toward solving this problem.

This 138 page paperback book forms part of the Radiology in Clinical Diagnosis Series under the general editorship of David H. Trapnell.

The purpose of the book is t o serve as a guide t o those who wish to establish an ultrasound service but who have limited experience in scanning. This text can serve as the basis for resident training during a 1-2 month rotation through the ultrasound service. It does achieve its purlpose.

The text consists of chapters and bibliographies, describing the role of ultrasound in conditions affecting the various parts of the abdomen (abdominal cavity and urinary tract), as well as in obstetrics and gynecology. The illustrations are satisfactory and clear.

The text is not and does not purport to be an advanced work on the subject. It is a short concise work that should be read as an introduction to a rotation or training program in ultrasound.
