The synthesis, characteristics

and analytical reactions of di-2-pyridyl ketone thiosemicarbazone are described. This compound reacts with iron( II) (A,,, -. 4 10 nm, c = 9.3 -10' 1 mol.-' cm"'), nickel(R) (A,,, = 395 nm, l = 19.6 -10' 1 mol-'cm-'), cobalt(II) (A,,, = 4 15 nm, c = 1.0 -10' 1 mol-'cm-') and copper(I) (A,;,, = 395 nm, 6 = 11.3 * 10' 1 mol-' cm-'). A critical comparison of di-Z-pyridyl ketone, picolinoldchydc and bipyridylglyoxal thiosemicarbazones as analytical reagents is given.
