β¦ Synopsis
The Du'ection or Sludtes and New 'T'echruques deparlmenl of Gaz de France has developed a device which allows quick delectnon and IocaJisahon of any leak which ~.',~uld occur m a large storage tank o1' cryogeruc fluid, and parlicularly in one o1' hqud'ied nalura] gas (LNG). The device is ba,~d on the prLnclple that, m Lhe case ~'d' a leak, the bqtud w'dl flow away preferenliagy along the walls o1" the internal tank because the presence o1" a cu,'~ton of glass wool w'dJ prevenl transverse rmgratton of the hquud or =Is vapour to the pulverulenl heal msuJalor outside tl. The system consists of copper strip mstalJed al the boltum of the circular space conlau'ung the heal msulalor next Io the Lnlernal tank (see Fig. I ), and o1' thermocouples welded OhiO tlus copper strip which delecls any drop m temperalure due Io a leakage o1' cold hquid.
