โฆ Synopsis
An innovatory approach is used to develop a new generation of cryogenic surgical apparatus (CSA). The originality is to use a subcooled two-phase jet of liquid nitrogen which can quickly and deeply freeze biological tissues. The new development promises several methodical possibilities in cryogenic surgery. A general description of the underlying deep-freezing method is given and tentative test results for the ยฎrst version of such apparatus are reported.

The minimum theoretical refrigerator power for cooling mechanical supports for a cryogenic apparatus is determined with the calculus of variations. A mathematical approach is developed that can be used to evaluate the thermal performance of any mechanical support which has fixed geometry. Four prac
