Perfluorochemicals (PFCs) are being widely developed for use as erythrocyte substitutes to carry oxygen to tissue in acute crises. Oxypherol, a commercially available PFC preparation commonly used for animal tests, reduces erythrocyte deformability in the presence of plasma. This undesirable effect
