## Abstract The experimental investigation on a coplanar stripline‐fed bow‐tie antenna backed by an image plane is presented. Analysis of the radiation characteristics shows that the antenna exhibits an enhanced 2:1 SWR bandwidth of 46%, low cross polarization, and reduced back radiation. This ante

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A bow‐tie element with an orthogonal feed arrangement has been developed to conform to the shape of a handheld device. An improved method to feed the bow‐tie antenna was realised, which includes modification to the printed Roberts balun with stubs to provide an exact feed location and broadening of the sharp edges at the feed positions of the bow‐tie elements. A wideband antenna (maximum bandwidth of 22.8%) with dual band characteristics will be shown. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
