USA (June 1973) 70 pp The synthesis procedure is based on linearizing a system about a set of closely spaced steady-state operating points and applying linear optimization methods at each point. A single nonlinear control problem is thereby reduccd to a series of linear control problems to permit the use of established analytical and numerical techniques ~LSsociated with linear optimal control theory. The technique is illustrated by its application to a piecewise-linear multivariabie model of a turbofan engine.
