✦ Synopsis
This paper proposes a new system concept for millimetre-waveband multimedia communications system called the broadband radio access integrated network in millimetre-wave band (BRAIN). BRAIN is able to o!er broadband wireless access services such as high-speed wireless LAN in an indoor environment and broadband wireless local loop (WLL) in an outdoor environment. An indoor LAN prototype of BRAIN that includes an access point and six remote stations was installed at the Communications Research Laboratory. A wireless media access control protocol called slotted idle signal multiple access with reservation (RS-ISMA) was implemented, which enabled the system to transmit multimedia tra$c. This paper covers the prototype system's design, con"guration and implementation.
