✦ Synopsis
A method for the determmatlon of oxalic acid was developed, based on denvatlzatlon wtth o-phenylenedmmme The electroactrve product, dlhydroxyqumoxahne, was determmed by dlfferentlal-pulse polarography and a lmear cahbratlon range from 2 X lo-' to 2 X 10e5 M was obtamed, wrth a detectlon lmut of 5 X lo-* M A study of interferences was undertaken and, although o-phenylenedlamme can react with a unde variety of other species, It was found that the method ts specific for oxahc acid If the amount of interference 1s not very large The method was applied successfully to the determination of oxahc acid (oxalate) m three ddferent kmds of products (corks, beer and spinach) using, m each mstance, an alternative method of determmatlon to confirm the vahdlty of the results
