Energy use in the transport sector is increasing both in developed-and developing countries. There have been substantial countermeasure policies conducted in EU countries, whereas developing countries are suffering from environmental degradation due to rapid motorization and lack of infrastructure investment. In this paper, such current trends are critically reviewed and possible policies to be conducted for protection of the global environment are proposed.
