✦ Synopsis

This article describes the development of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) at Ceramic Fuel Cells Ltd in Australia, and in particular the progress with its latest system, its first at the 25 kW level, which is planned for operation in mid-1999. Ceramic Fuel Cells Ltd (CFCL) was established in 1992, with the purpose of developing and commerciahsing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) Fuel Cel l s Bulletin No. 5

In contrast to traditional membrane development -a synthesis-intensive process with many distinct steps -the partners are taking a 'formulation approach'. This involves selecting a number of different polymers, each picked for a specific property, then combining the polymers in one mixing step so th

Trials on working cells are under way, and tests suggest the system could draw off gas and vapor at 10 times the rate needed for a micro fuel cell. However, improvements will be needed before the technology is re

A 1 kW class anode-supported flat tubular SOFC stack for intermediate temperature (700e800 C) operation was fabricated and operated in this study. For this purpose, we fabricated anode-supported flat tubular cells by optimization of the current collecting method and the induction brazing process. Af
