Three limited studies are described in which attempts were made to quantify some of the differences in style between individual operators of a simulated aircraft control. Two-dimensional tracking tasks (height and heading control) were presented on a CRT display. Even a straight-forward integral of control displacement over time can show differences between individuals within a group (for example R.A.F. squadron pilots). Other, less gross analyses may be required, however, if interoperator differences are to be explained in terms less coarse than, say, a pilot-test pilot distinction.
