✦ Synopsis
Near-optimum control can be obtained using a deterministic parameter identification scheme, and singular perturbation theory can be used to evaluate the effects of estimation error.
Summary--Recently neighboring optimum design has been extended to systems with unknown plant parameters. These developments suggest an important class of deterministic parameter estimation problems. These problems have not received sut~cient attention, although some results have been obtained as limiting cases of stochastic estimation schemes. In this paper state estimation theory is modified for deterministic parameter estimation in near optimum control of non-linear systems.

## Abstract In this paper the parameter estimation problem for deterministic MIMO systems with overparametrized models will be addressed. In SISO systems overparametrized signal models might arise if the order of the plant model is set too high. For MIMO systems this problem will arise whenever its
