✦ Synopsis
This paper seeks to examine some of the assumptions that can confuse attempts to determine the training effectiveness of flight simulators. It sets out the arguments in favour of using measures of training effectiveness derived from the concept of transfer of training and examines ways in which information may be used to present more detailed specification for training device requirements. It also draws attention to a number of interacting factors (eg, cost and utilisation) which must be taken into account when arriving at an assessment of training effectiveness.
