✦ Synopsis
Formulas are derived relating the observables of circularly polarized vibrational Raman spectra to vibrational and orientational time-correlation functions of molecular systems in a spatially isotropic (fluid) sample. The derivations are based on a theoretical model developed previously by Nat% and Peticolas. The final expressions show that vibrational and orientational time-correlation functions can be obtained from I(w) = I,-_ f IR and M(w) = 1~ -IR spectra (where 1~ and fR are, respectively, the intensities of the left and right circtdady polarized components of the Raman scattered light), in a manner similar to that used to obtain these same functions from k-early polarized Raman scattering spectra (where I,, and fL are measured).
