Abstract

On the basis of experiments with silver and nickel wires at room temperature it is shown that torsional deformation provides an easy means for the determination of work‐hardening characteristics of metals up to shear strains of several hundred percent. Some irregularities of the stress‐strains curves of both metals at deformations corresponding to tensile strains of about 0.3 to 0.5 may be indicative of features of work‐hardening which have hitherto escaped attention.
