In order to determine the relative transition probabilities (t.p.) of the zinc atom, we measured the intensities of lines ~tnd bands in the spectrum of a d.c. carbon arc in air with one electrode containing a mixture of ZnO and MgCO 3 or MgO. In table I the relative intensities of the components wi

โฆ Synopsis
The relative transition probabilities (t.p.) of some triplet lines in the spectra of calcium and strontium have been determined with the aid of the relative intensities of these lines in the emission of the column of an electric arc, measured according to the photographic-photometric method. The temperature of the emitting gas was found from the intensity ratio of two Cu lines with known relative t.p.
In table I the relative t.p. of some Ca lines are given. Multiplication by 3,03 . 104 gives the .approximate absolute values. In table II, giving the t.p. of some Sr lines, this factor is 2, 12. 105.
Table III shows a comparison between the t.p. of corresponding triplet lines for some elements of the second group of the periodic system. *) See for a detailed description also J. W. S c h u t t e v a e r: ,,Relatieve waarschijnlijkheden van overgangen in het Ca-, Zn-en Sr-atoom" (thesis Utrecht 1942).
