โœฆ Synopsis

A method for the determination of the pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Seneciojucobueu (Compositae) by 'H and I3C NMR is presented. 'H NMR is a reliable method for the determination of the total alkaloid level. I3C NMR appears to be a suitable method for the determination of the individual alkaloids. The same techniques can also be applied to other plants containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

A careful NMR analysis with full assignment of the 1 H and 13 C spectral data for two minor saponins isolated from stems of Cordia piauhiensis is reported. These saponins were isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography and characterized as 3b-O-[a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-.1 โ†’ 2/-b-D-glucopyranosyl
