✦ Synopsis

The paper describes a method for estimation of the orientation of 3D objects without point correspondence information. It is based on decomposition of the object onto a basis of spherical harmonics. Tensors are obtained, and their normalization provides the orientation of the object. Theoretical and experimental results show that the approach is more accurate than the classical method based on the diagonalization of the inertia matrix. Fast registration of 3D objects is a problem of practical interest in domains such as robotics and medical imaging, where it helps to compare multimodal data. 1995 Acarenic Press, Inc.

## Abstract A new approach to approximate the 3‐D shape of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions and to calculate their volumes is presented. The suggested method utilizes sets of MS lesion contours taken from segmented MR images and approximates their 3‐D surfaces by spherical harmonics. This method was

A technique has been developed for encoding the image of a 3D object from two viewpoints. Using doublecolored grid coding and a neural network, a wider variety of 3D objects can be identified. The image is encoded as a modulated grid pattern by projecting a grid pattern over the object. Using two si

The design of an active noise control system involves several steps. One of the most important is to find the best locations of the control sources and error sensors according to the primary source distribution and its spectrum. Thus the first step in this optimization problem is to obtain an analyt

## Abstract Knowing the orientations of the ice crystals in a polycrystalline aggregate is essential for understanding and modeling the flow of naturally occurring ice. Here we show, for the first time, that the orientation of crystals in polycrystalline ice can be determined with a higher angular
