✦ Synopsis

new method for determining the order of singularity at the apex of a planar wedgeshaped crack under normal pressure inside an infinite, three-d~rn~ns~o~al~ isotropic elastic medium is proposed. This method is based on the two-dimensional hypersingular integral equation of the aforementioned crack problem and reduces the determination of the order of singularity to the solution of a one-dimensional, hypersingular integral equation. The present method presents some advantages over a previous method for the solution of the same problem, by Keer and Parihar. with which it is compared and proved equivalent as far as the obtained resuits are concerned.
