Determination of total soil nitrogen is usually performed by digesting a soil sample with sulfuric acid, salts and a catalyzing agent. Organic carbon determinations may be performed in a chromic acid digest. Several possibilities were investigated in order to combine the two digestion methods into a single chromic acid digest.
