✦ Synopsis
Femtosecond time-resolved non-resonant CARS (coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy) was applied to determine line shift coefficients of the Q-branch in H 2 and in mixtures of H 2 and Ar at total pressures up to 80 bar. The detailed sub-picosecond beating structure of the experimental transients allows energy shifts to be measured with a resolution of better than 1 × 10 -4 cm -1 . J -dependent line shift coefficients for pure H 2 were measured by fitting them to the time-domain CARS transients. The good agreement with values obtained by frequency-domain Raman spectroscopy proves the applicability of this method for the determination of line profile parameters. For H 2 -Ar new line shift coefficients were determined.
