✦ Synopsis

Instrumentation and analytical procedures for the direct determination of lead, copper and cadmium in alcoholic beverages in the concentration range I.-100 rJg I-' are outlined.

The results are discussed with respect to detection limit, precision and time for analysis.

Comparison with results obtained with atomic absorption spectrometry showed discrepancies of less than 15%.

Coulometric stripping potentiometry has been used to achieve calibration-free determinations of Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) in tap water samples. With the coulometric approach, interference from the formation of Cu-Zn intermetallic compounds (CuZn x ) on the quantification of Zn(II) was circum
