✦ Synopsis

A method is described for the degradation of "'C-labeled lysine with determination of radioactivity in the individual C atoms. The method depends on permanganate oxidation of lysine to give S-aminopentanoic acid, y-aminobutyric acid, p-alanine, and glycine, and on ninhydrin decarboxylation of glycine. The method will be equally useful for determining the distribution of "N and "H in lysine.
