✦ Synopsis

The objective of this investigation is to propose a method of determination of effective thermal conductivity for laminated composite slab in non-linear case. The case when thermal conductivity of constituent and effective thermal conductivity are linear function of temperature is considered. The method consists on determination of "micro-field" of temperature by means of adaptive FEM. Next, an effective medium as single layer is introduced. Two constants which characterize the effective thermal conductivity in effective medium are calculated on the basis two postulates. First of them consists in assumption that heat flux in real medium and effective medium are identical. The second is that the distance between temperature in the effective medium and the temperature in the real medium is minimal in the least square sense.

An experimental study was carried out to characterise the constitutive response of carbon fibre-reinforced epoxy laminates. While maintaining essentially linear behaviour in the fibre and transverse directions, this material displays significant non-linear shear stress-strain behaviour to rupture. I
