✦ Synopsis
The effectiveness of density separations on the maceral group composition of lignite and sub-bituminous coal samples taken from five different localities has been investigated. Although mineral rich and organic rich, some mineral poor fractions could be obtained. A technique of van Krevelen, 'Coal', Elsevier, 1961, p. 113, was unsuccessful in separating the lignites into their maceral groups.
