✦ Synopsis
A sensltwe and selectlve method for the dctermmatlon of 1,3dmitropyrene (1,3-DNP), l&DNP, 1,8-DNP and 1-mtropyrene (l-NP) m enussion partuxlates from diesel and gasoline engme vehicles was developed The method cons&s of three steps, sample clean-up, reduction and liquid chromatographlc analysis Partnxlates were collected on a glass-fibre filter usmg a low-volume ay sampler They were extracted wth benzene-ethanol and the resulting benzene phase was cleaned by extractlon anth sodmm hydroxide, sulphunc acid and water DNPs and l-NP were reduced to their corresponding dmmmopyrenes (DAPs) and ammopyrene CAP), respecWely, by heatmg the extracts m the presence of sodmm hydrosulphde DAPs and AP were separated on a reversed-phase column using an mudazole buffer-acetomtrde nuxture as the mobde phase The effluent was mured unth b&2,4,6-tnchlorophenyl) oxalate-hydrogen peroxrde postcolumn reagent solution and the ermtted chemdummescence was monitored Levels ofDNPsandNPaslowas10-13molmg-1 were determmed m enusslon partuxlates from diesel and gasohne engme vehicles using this method
