✦ Synopsis


Application of capillary zone electrophoresis to the quantitative estimation of cimetidine in rat urine is described. A series of steps, which include extraction with ethyl acetate and petroleum ether, are used to remove compounds which caused poor capillary performance. The method is based on the ratio of the peak area of cimetidine to that of the internal standard, procaine. The animals were given oral doses of a pharmaceutical preparation, then urine levels of cimetidine were measured at various time intervals over a 12-h period. The concentration of the drug in the urine samples was maximized at (8 \mathrm{~h}) and remained constant for the duration of the study, 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
