โœฆ Synopsis

An approach to determining component-wise chromatographic elution profiles is proposed. The method uses non-normalized spectra from a spectrochromatogram and subsequent singular value decompositions of these data to create second singular value evolving profiles (SVEP2s). The SVEP2s are shown to approximate actual elution profiles for all components in a sample. Gas chromatography Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection, and simulated spectrochromatograms are used to test the effectiveness of this method. The high correlations found between estimated elution profiles and actual chromatograms affirms the ability of the approach.

A new method for determining chromatographic peak purity is presented. The method uses condition index evolving profiles ( CIEPs) and singular value evolving profiles ( SVFPs). To produce a CIEP or a SVEP, singular value decompositions are performed on data matrices containing the analyte's pure-com
