✦ Synopsis
We report the first detection of the nitrogen sulfide (NS) radical in a comet. The abundance relative to water is at least a few hundredths of a percent for Comet Hale-Bopp.

We present 2.2 µm (K) imaging infrared (IR) polarimetry of Comet Hale-Bopp at three different epochs: 1996 April and August and 1997 April. We also present 1.5-and 1.7-µm imaging polarimetry and photometry from 1.7 to 3.8 µm in 1997 April. In 1996 April and August the comet was ≤ 0.5% polarized in t
We report on observations and analysis of the C 2 Swan band v = 0 sequence in the optical spectrum of Comet Hale-Bopp. One set of observational data was obtained when this comet was at a large heliocentric distance (3.03 AU). This unusual distance provided the opportunity to enhance our knowledge of
## Water (H 2 O) was detected in Comet C/1995 O1 Hale-Bopp on 10 dates between UT January 21.8 and May 1.2, 1997, using highresolution infrared spectroscopy. This is the first study of the heliocentric dependence of water released from a comet using direct detection of H 2 O itself. Production rat
