## Abstract HBeAg or anti HBe were detected using radioimmunoassay in 93 out of 100 British patients who were chronic HBsAg carriers. HBeAg was found more commonly than anti HBe in younger patients and those with higher titres of HBsAg and abnormal liver function tests. HBeAg was present particular

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
A simple, sensitive, and specific competitive solid phase immunoassay for antibody to varicellaβzoster virus (antiβVZV) is described. The assay uses reagents that can easily be prepared and is sparing of viral antigen. Using a solid phase coated with sheep IgG from a serum raised against human ΞΌβFc, the same reagents will accurately detect antiβVZV IgM.
The competitive assay divided sera from children and adults into immune and nonimmune groups that closely correlated with a history of previous VZV illness. It was not affected by the presence or absence of antibody to other herpes viruses. The IgM antibody capture assay demonstrated the presence of antiβVZV IgM in sera from patients with both varicella and zoster and gave negative results in patients with infections unrelated to VZV and in healthy blood donors.

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were used to detect IgG and IgA antibodies to herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and rubella virus in sera from 68 adult female gynaecological patients. Of the patients who had virus-specific IgG antibodies, the proport
Monoclonal antibodies were used for detecting varicella-zoster virus (VZV) by immunofluorescence (IF) i n clinical specimens inoculated on shell vial cultures. Vesicles of 74 patients with varicella or herpes zoster-like eruptions were tested by this method and by conventional cell culture. Further
An IgM antibody capture assay for detection of cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgM antibody (MACRIA) was developed. It was shown to be of similar sensitivity to the indirect immunofluorescence test but has the advantage that rheumatoid factor does not react in it and pretest fractionation of serum is not requ
