Human intestinal mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins which protect and lubricate the epithelium of the gastrointestinal tract. In cases of malignant disease, mucins are abnormally expressed, overproduced or underglycosylated. This feature may enable the mucins to serve as tumour markers.

## Abstract C595 is a murine lgG~3~ monoclonal antibody (MAb) raised against human urinary mucin. C595 antibody binds to the protein core of the MUCβ1 mucin (the polymorphic epithelial mucin, PEM) which is elevated in tissue and secretions from human breast carcinomas. The antibody defines the tetr
The cancer-associated epitope defined by the monoclonal antibody (MAb) 9H8 was shown to be closely related to the T antigen (Thornsen-Friedenreich antigen) by its sensitivity to 0-glycanase treatment of a mucin glycopeptide known to express this epitope. The reactivity with this glycopeptide increas
