✦ Synopsis
Pyridine carboxylic acid, PCA 4, adsorbed on activated carbon can be used for the protection against cyanogen chloride. The physical-chemistry of the reaction has been studied: mechanism of cyanogen chloride destruction; effects of impregnation procedure, PCA 4 and water contents, temperature and aging. The results show that PCA 4 chemically reacts with CNCI and increases the efficiency of the adsorbent. Moreover, the efficiency is enhanced when water is preadsorbed on the carbon support. The supported PCA 4 is not sensitive to aging in a hot and humid environment prior to CNCI adsorption.
