โฆ Synopsis
In the analysis of desorption accompanied by a chemical reaction the process in the bulk phase is not disregarded. The description of the processes in the film and bulk phase is linked in a manner required for the steady-state operation. One conclusion of the analysis is that, when all reactants enter the reactor as components of the reaction phase, desorption cannot be viewed as the mirror image of absorption-an attitude widely adopted by earlier authors. Another conclusion is that in types of equipment generally used for interphase mass transfer the enhancement of the rate of transfer is negligible in desorption operations as defined here. The finding is general: it is valid for quite slow reactions, and fast reactions, including the limiting case of instantaneous reactions; for reversible reactions it is valid for both non-equilibrium and equilibrium conditions.
