✦ Synopsis
A rwvcl bioreactor equipped with a double helical ribbon impeller (HRII and three su#ace banes has been shown to be welt adapted to shear sensitive suspension cultures. D&a on power dissipation, mixing time, circularion time, mass transferparameters (k,. k,al wwe obtained at the 3 and I1 L scale. Rational design and scale-up of this type of unit are discussed. Perfornrrznce of the HRI for high density cultivation of plant cells (27g dry weight/L) and insect cells (6x10" cellshnLJ are presented.
