β¦ Synopsis
Advanced support straps for cryogenic applications have been designed and advanced composite materials which show low thermal conductivity and high tensile strength have been evaluated for use in such straps. Thermal dimensional stability is also needed. These straps, which were constructed from three-dimensional (3D) fabric reinforced plastics and unidirectional (UD) fibre reinforced plastics (FRPs) have been shown to exhibit excellent mechanical strength. A thermal design for the straps has also been made to optimize the advanced straps. The possibility of using 3DFRPs for the advanced straps is discussed.
