Abstract
In this paper, we present a pattern synthesis method of non‐uniform linear array antennas for simultaneous reduction of the side‐lobe level and pattern distortion during beam steering. To achieve these two requirements, the positions of linear array elements are adjusted using the Gauss–Newton method. It is shown that the proposed method can significantly reduce pattern distortion as well as the side‐lobe level, although the beam direction is scanned. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
